It seems like controversy is brewing in the K-pop industry once again, with Vietnamese idol MiiNa, a member of DREAMeR, being accused of plagiarizing BLACKPINK member Rosé's concept. Fans were quick to notice the similarities between MiiNa's teaser photos and Rosé's "-R-" photobook, as well as her outfit in a recent video.
MiiNa's Teaser Photos and Rosé's "-R-" Photobook
In MiiNa's teaser photos for her debut single "Buồn Không Thể Buông," she is seen wearing a long, purple tulle dress and posing with flowers. Fans were quick to point out that the concept was nearly identical to Rosé's photos for her "-R-" photobook. Even their hair, which is dyed platinum blonde, is styled the same way.
MiiNa's Outfit in Recent Video and Rosé's "Sea of Hope" Appearance
In a recent video uploaded by DREAMer Entertainment, MiiNa is seen singing the piano version of their debut single while wearing a blue dress over light blue jeans and white sneakers. This outfit bears a striking resemblance to what Rosé wore during her guest appearance on JTBC's "Sea of Hope." Rosé even shared photos of her wearing the outfit on her Instagram profile.
Fans' Reaction
Fans of Rosé and BLACKPINK were quick to express their anger and disappointment over the similarities between MiiNa's concept and Rosé's. Some called MiiNa the "plagiarized version" of Rosé, while others joked that she was cosplaying as the K-pop idol. Comments like "Are you obsessed with Rosé?" and "Are you cosplaying?" flooded social media.
Rosé's Latest Musical Release
Meanwhile, Rosé's last musical release was her debut single album, "-R-," which was released on March 12, 2021. The single album featured two songs: title track "On the Ground" and b-sidetrack "Gone." "On the Ground" debuted at number 70 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped both the Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts.
It remains to be seen whether MiiNa and DREAMer Entertainment will respond to the plagiarism accusations. However, it's clear that fans are not happy with the similarities between MiiNa's concept and Rosé's. While it's not uncommon for K-pop idols to take inspiration from each other, outright copying is never acceptable. What do you think of the situation? Let us know in the comments below!
